Admissions Requirements

All Programs

  • Students must be 18 years of age or older. (Applicants may be 17 years of age, but must be 18 prior to entering the program.)
  • Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. (Applicants for the Building Trades programs without a high school diploma or G.E.D. may be eligible.)
  • Applicants must have a personal interview with an Admissions Representative.
  • Applicants must pass an entrance test.
  • Applicants may be required to go through preliminary programs such as Success Training, Young Professionals, or Professional Trades Workshop in addition to having a Student Services interview.
  • All applicants are notified in writing of their acceptance or non-acceptance into any requested program.
  • Support programs are provided to all applicants including those with obstacles to training to ensure success in program completion.

Court Reporting Program

In addition to the above requirements, applicants for the Court Reporting program must have transcripts from all previous postsecondary schools. Applicants will also be evaluated for placement purposes only in vocabulary and keyboarding knowledge and ability.

Human Services Program

In addition to the above requirements, applicants for the Human Services program must be 18 years of age.

Application Procedures

In order to hold a place in class, applicants are asked to complete three steps:

  • Information Interview and Tour
  • Assessment Testing
  • Enrollment Paperwork

Assessment will then take place and a student services interview may follow. After review of the application and assessment, the Institute notifies the applicant of its decision in writing. If financial assistance is desired, an appointment is made with the Financial Aid Officer following acceptance by the Institute. When enrollment requirements have been fulfilled, the applicant must complete the remaining registration and financial pre-requisites in order to reserve a place in class.

Transfer of Credit

Our Building Trades and Human Services programs do not accept transfer credit for courses completed in other institutions.

The Court Reporting Program accepts transfer credit for courses completed within the past seven years at other accredited postsecondary institutions, when comparable in scope and content to the Court Reporting Program’s courses. There is a grade minimum requirement. Details are available in the current catalog of Orleans Technical Institute, which is available from the Admissions Department.

Orientation

New Student Orientation gets students off to a great start. Students receive a handbook that includes school policies and procedures, facility rules and regulations, academic and attendance requirements, and a description of all services available to them as enrollees in the Institute. The orientation session provides an opportunity for students to meet administrative, counseling and instructional staff.
