Student Services
At Orleans Technical Institute,
we want our students to achieve their maximum potential.
That is why we provide supportive student services,
which help ensure that each student’s training
experience is positive, comprehensive and personally
enriching.
Orientation
New Student
Orientation gets students off to a great start.
Students receive a handbook that includes school
policies and procedures, facility rules and regulations,
academic and attendance requirements, and a description
of all services available to them as enrollees in
the Institute. The orientation session provides
an opportunity for students to meet administrative,
counseling and instructional staff.
Tutoring
We want
our students to succeed. Therefore, academic support
outside of the classroom is one of the many student
support services offered at Orleans Technical Institute.
When a student is in need of special help or is
not grasping the technical aspects of a course,
s/he can schedule time with one of our trained tutors.
Tutors are available to help with everything from
quick fixes to long-term strategies for academic
success.
Advising
One-on-one
support is available to help students deal with
any concerns that may interfere with training. The
Student Services staff also provides career guidance
and academic advising to maximize each student’s
ability to benefit from training.
Job Search Assistance
To ensure
success in the working world, Orleans Technical
Institute offers comprehensive career services to
all students. Our employment specialists meet with
students individually to identify interests, then
assist with preparing resumes and honing interview
skills. Students are taught how to enter the labor
market, how and where to seek employment, and methods
for developing specific job leads.
Job developers
seek employment opportunities for graduates by surveying
the local market, contacting employers, and securing
job leads for students. Although the Institute
cannot guarantee employment for its graduates,
every effort is made to assist the graduate in securing
a job at no additional cost. The ultimate responsibility
for finding employment, however, lies with each
student.
Job search assistance continues for
every graduate as long as is necessary and appropriate
to locate a suitable position.
Student-Manager Coalition
The Student-Manager
Coalition (SMC) functions as an open forum—a
two-way conduit of information and ideas—between
students and the school managers. The meetings focus
on identifying issues and solutions that will better
help students as they prepare for their careers.
Community Outreach/Field Experience
During
training in our Building Trades programs, field experiences
may be arranged with a variety of community-based
organizations. This effort benefits students by
providing practical curriculum projects in actual
community settings. An example of a field experience
program is Habitat for Humanity.
Seminar for Success
The staff at Orleans Tech
realize that not all roadblocks to a student’s
success are academic. With this in mind, all first-year
students are required
to attend our Seminar for Success class where students
address non-academic stumbling blocks. The students
are introduced to techniques from goal-setting to
positive communication skills to overcoming test
anxiety. The Seminar for Success class is an important
part of our student support services and many students
have benefited from the seminars.
